Founded in 1973, Grumman|Butkus Associates is a nationally recognized firm specializing in sustainable design engineering and energy efficiency consulting. Our award-winning services include facility assessment and analysis, MEP engineering design, commissioning, retro-commissioning, monitoring-based commissioning, and energy efficiency and LEED consulting.

We help clients achieve goals and solve tough problems, with particular expertise in energy-intensive and complex facilities.

They have provided MEP design (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) for many businesses in Evanston and the surrounding area including Endeavor Health Systems (Evanston Hospital, Glenbrook Hospital, Skokie Hospital, Highland Park Hospital), St Francis Hospital, Northwestern University, Rotary International and the Music Institute of Chicago. They recently did MEP pro bono work for YOU’s new facility. They employ approximately 100 people in Evanston, 35 in Wisconsin and 10 in New York. They are MASH-UP sponsors as well (the city-NU event held at Northwestern University at the beginning of the school year). Several members of the company have been on Evanston’s Energy Commission and have been on the YOU and YMCA board. One member of the firm helps non profits in Evanston with their energy benchmarking required by the City of Evanston. Last year the company celebrated their 50th anniversary.
