Established: 1978Business Type: Non-profitKnown For: Fostering creativity and connection through close, meaningful engagement with visual art.
Art Encounter is one of Evanston’s oldest arts organizations. The non profit group, dedicated to creating opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to have access to art experiences, was an establishing tenant of the Noyes Cultural Art Center over 45 years ago. They are unique among other visual arts organizations for their breath of programming, and their commitment to providing free programs in the community. They’ve brought art workshops into Evanston public schools, Evanston senior residences, numerous social service agencies, and to the public at large through their mural program. The organizations founder, (Joanna Pinsky), still runs one arm of programming, and her daughter Lea Pinsky is the executive Director and runs their mural program.
